Donald L. Sperry

September 10, 1935 ~ June 26, 2018 (age 82)


Donald Leroy Sperry, 82, of Litchfield, passed away on Tues., June 26, 2018 at 5:28 a.m.  He was born on Sept. 10, 1935 in Darlington, WI, the son of Wade & Florence (Tressner) Sperry.  Mr. Sperry was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.  Over the years, he worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber as a trouble shooting analyst for 15 years.  He later also worked for Grove Construction and Buske Truck Lines in Litchfield after retiring.  He belonged to Operating Engineer Local 520.  Don loved building and flying remote control airplanes, singing, playing guitar, watching war movies and spending time with family.  He married Martha Sowell on June 25, 1960 in Centre, AL.  She survives.  He is also survived by:

   1 son,               Donald L. (Susan Ann) Sperry of Goldsboro, NC

   3 daughters,     Gina Sperry (Andrea) of Newport, RI

                           Kerri (Dan) Frerichs of Sullivan

                           Lori (Dan) Heise of Litchfield

   1 sister,            Joan (Lyle) Dysert of Plymouth, WI

   7 grandchildren, Rory Sperry, Shawn Sperry, Tyler (Kayleigh) Frerichs;

                            Chad (Nichole) Frerichs; Nick Frerichs,

 McKenzie (Devin) Brakenhoff; Connor Heise

   1 niece,             Lisa Hicks of Sheboygan, WI

He was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew, Steve Hicks.

A memorial service will be held Fri. July 13, 2018 at 10:30 am at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield.  Lee Johns, deacon of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro will preside.  Family and friends will gather at Holy Family Catholic Church Parish Center for a luncheon.  A funeral procession line up will begin at 1:00 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church to process to Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.  Inurnment and Military honors will take place.  Friends may call from 9:30 am until time of service Friday at Plummer Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials to Coats For Kids in Litchfield or Litchfield Veterans’ Memorial Garden Fund.
