David William Fleming, 78, of Litchfield passed away on Mon., Aug. 6, 2018 in his home surrounded by family. He was born on Nov. 15, 1939 in Litchfield, a son of William Harold & Greta Belle (Bachstein) Fleming. He graduated Litchfield High School in 1957 and went on to SIU-Carbondale and graduated in 1961. Mr. Fleming was a veteran of the IL National Guard. He worked as a CPA at Ernst & Ernst in St. Louis before returning to Litchfield where he went on to start his own business, Fleming CPA’s and owned for 25 years and then sold to the current partnership in 1994. He was a life long member of First Baptist Church in Litchfield. Mr. Fleming was a member of the Lfd. Antlers Club for 45 years, Litchfield Country Club, Norwood Hills Country Club in St. Louis, MO, Litchfield Rotary Club, and Kilton Foundation. He served on the Board of Directors of National Bank, now Bank of Hillsboro. He also served on the Board of Directors for Elmwood Cemetery Assn. for 45 years. Mr. Fleming also authored a book titled “Incorporation of Farms” and was considered one of the great business minds in our community. He enjoyed golfing, boating, and traveling the world. He enjoyed watching football, and was a St. Louis football fan. He married the former Felma Nell Hunter on June 24, 1962 in Vandalia. She preceded him in death on Dec. 24, 1998. He was preceded in death by his wife Felma & daughter Jill in infancy.
Funeral services will be held on Sat., Aug. 11, 2018 at 11 am at First Baptist Church in Litchfield. Rev. Jason Plumer will preside. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield. Visitation will be held on Fri., Aug. 10, 2018 from 3 – 8 pm at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. The family suggests memorials to Elmwood Cemetery Entrance Improvement Fund., Montgomery County Cancer Assn, or First Baptist Church of Litchfield.
