Ellen Niehaus, 81, of Litchfield passed away Saturday, February 4, 2017, at 1:40 p.m. in Heritage Health Therapy & Senior Center in Litchfield. Mrs. Niehaus was born on September 16, 1935 in Litchfield to the late Donald and Edna (Guthals) Miller. On June 23, 1956, she married William R. Niehaus and he preceded her in death on August 30, 1993. Mrs. Niehaus was a graduate of the Mt. Olive High School Class of 1953 and valued the lifelong friendships she built during her youth in Mt. Olive. A longtime resident of Litchfield, she also enjoyed spending time with her local dinner group and card club. Mrs. Niehaus proudly worked for the State of Illinois Job Service Division for 50 years, and was also involved in the family business, Niehaus Cycle Sales.
She is survived by three sons, Brad (Jan) Niehaus, Brian (Stacy) Niehaus, and Scott (Liz) Niehaus; seven grandchildren, Leigh Ann (Erik) Gruenewald, Michael Niehaus, Matthew (Kate) Niehaus, Jackson Niehaus, Benjamin Niehaus, Natalie Niehaus, Wil Niehaus; and one great granddaughter, Ava Gruenewald. Also surviving are four brothers, Raymond (Mary) Miller, Norman (Liz) Miller, Nelson Miller and Paul (Marilyn) Miller; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother, Marvin Miller, sister-in-law, Carol Miller, as well as her father-in-law and mother-in-law, William (Matilda) Niehaus.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield with Pastor Fred Kraemer officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery, followed by a dinner at Zion Lutheran Church Auditorium.
