Everett Martin Franklin Abel, 90, of Litchfield, died Fri., June 4, 2010 at 1:30 a.m. in Litchfield HealthCare Center. He was born on June 25, 1919 in Atwood, IL, a son of John George & Ruth Ann (Meece) Abel. He was raised in Bement, moved to Litchfield, followed by Jacksonville, and back to Litchfield where he settled in 1988. He graduated from Bement High School in 1938. He married Doris Elaine Winters on Mar. 8, 1939 in Covington, IN. She preceded him in death on Sept. 6, 2005. He worked for Wabash/Norfolk Western Railroad as a road master for 40 years before retiring in 1978. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Lodge # 51 A.F & A.M. in Hillsboro for more than 50 years where he served as past master, secretary, & treasurer. He was also a member of St. Timothy United Methodist Church in Litchfield where he was very active and served in various capacities. Everett and his wife delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, gardening, repairing clocks, woodworking, and doing crossword puzzles. He is survived by:

3 daughters, Patricia Rushton of Pensacola, FL
Joyce (Jerry) Madden of Gillespie
Dianne DeNeef of Godfrey
1 sister, Ellen Wiggins of Lafayette, IN
12 grandchildren & 24 great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents & wife, Doris.

Funeral Information

A sunset graveside funeral service will be held Mon., June 7, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield. Rev. James Tinzmann, minister of St. Timothy United Methodist Church in Litchfield, & Rev. Mike Michels, retired minister of the church, will officiate. Visitation will be held Monday from 4 until 6:30 p.m. in Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Masonic rites will be exemplified at 6:30 p.m.

Donations Information

The family suggests memorials to St. Timothy United Methodist Church or Montgomery County Cancer Association.
